All about IELTS Exam, Format, Types, Score and Fee Etc

IELTS, International English Level Testing System is accepted worldwide and is the world’s most popular English language proficiency test for migration and study abroad. If you are from a country which does not have its native language English, then you need to take this test to move abroad. In the recent year, more than 3 million students have appeared for this Examination worldwide. IELTS is trusted by more than 10000 institutions worldwide.

IELTS Exam Format:

IELTS Exam accesses you in four major English language parameters- Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking.

IELTS is basically of two types-

–    IELTS Academic

–    IELTS General training

Reading – Reading section in IELTS Exam consists of 40 questions and is of 30 minutes. It basically comprises three paragraphs.It’s more or less the same in both IELTS Academic and IELTS General with a difference in the topic context.

Writing- Writing section in IELTS Exam consists of 2 questions and is of 60 minutes. The IELTS General exam is much easier for this section than the IELTS Academic exam.

Listening- Listening Section in the IELTS Exam consists of more than 40 questions and is of 30 minutes.

Speaking- Speaking Section in IELTS Exam consists of 3 questions and lasts for 10-14 minutes

IELTS Academic:

To attend a university for graduate and undergraduate courses, or to enter into a professional organization, you need to apply for IELTS Academic test

IELTS General:

The people who are looking for migration need to take the IELTS general test.

IELTS Score:

After the completion of your IELTS Exam, you would be provided with an IELTS Band score from 1-9, which would give you your proficiency level in the English language. Same IELTS score is not mandatory for all institutions and colleges, some universities also might not need an IELTS score for admissions, so you need to be in touch with the requirements of the college, the university you are planning to take admission in.

Registration for IELTS Exam:

IELTS is open for 48 dates per year. You can register for IELTS Exam in both ways- Online and in-person. Online you can register on the IELTS website and offline you can register in any British Council or IDP Centres.

Terms for appearing in IELTS Examination

–    The candidate must be at least 16 years of age.

–    All the information should match the information in a passport.

–    Carry your passport on the day of your exam

IELTS Examination Fee:

The Examination fee for appearing in IELTS Exam is 12650

IELTS Test Centres: There are 78 IELTS test centers in India. Only two bodies can conduct IELTS Exam from which British Council has 40 centers and IDP offices have 37 branches. Also please keep a gap of 3-4 months from your date of migration as if you cannot clear once, you can appear again for the examination.
